Experiencing vs. ExpressingJun 26, 2019
Are you living a life fully expressed?
We spend so much of our time experiencing — watching TV, sitting in meetings, scrolling through social media — and it’s vital that we balance that with expressing. Writing, painting, dancing — those are all ways of expressing. My mentor Gay Hendricks says to balance experiencing and expressing for a truly fulfilled life. It’s easy to get caught up in consuming other people’s creativity, and forget about creating on our own.
When you wake up tomorrow morning, instead of reaching for your phone to check Instagram, try picking up a notebook and journaling for 30 minutes. It doesn’t matter what you write about or if it’s any good, it’s simply a way to get those creative juices flowing by starting your day expressing instead of experiencing. As Madonna said, "Express yourself"! Too much experiencing and not enough expressing is an unbaked life.
